Mission: Octant Academic Consultants strives to help families navigate academic challenges and develop confident and successful students who take charge of their education.
How Our Mission Informs Our Work
At Octant Academic Consultants, our mission is not just something we wrote, it is something that guides how we work with students and families. Here is a breakdown of our mission:
Help Families Navigate Academic Challenges
We know that it can be difficult when your child struggles at school. We work hard to be trustworthy experts in the field of education who you can turn to for support. We work with families to create individualized plans to help with a variety of challenges, from balancing the rigor and pace of a new school to improving organization and other executive functioning skills. We also guide families through the challenging world of test prep, and help them work with their schools to best support their students.
Develop Confident and Successful Students
At the heart of this company is the students we work with. We aim to help them build vital skills to achieve their best at school. Learning is natural and fun, and we love helping students rediscover the joys of learning. We take a coaching model of academic support, rather than a traditional tutoring model that focuses on grades and content. Instead, we use the content of a class as a way to help students learn how to be confident and successful in the classroom regardless of the subject. We help students look more broadly at their education to not only overcome current challenges, but avoid future ones as well.
Help Students Take Charge of Their Education
Ultimately, we want to work ourselves out of a job. Our goal is use our time with students to build healthy habits and skill sets that allow them to chart their own course, with a variety of options before them from which to choose. When students drive their education, they learn more deeply and enjoy school. To paraphrase John Wooden, “Success is peace of mind in knowing you did your best to become your best.” That will look differently for each student we work with, but in the end, every student will be their personal best. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a former student conquer the academic year on their own because they grew into an independent student, ready to use the skills we equipped them with at any time.
